          Trimester 3: Force and Motion

          Picture
          NEW! (April 11th, 2012)

We will began our investigation of force and motion by becoming toy testers!  Using puppets, bouncy balls, Play-doh, poppers, toy cars, and so much more, we will begin to understand that without a push or a pull these toys just don't work!  We will define a push or a pull as a FORCE.  We will also explore the idea of friction as a force.

As our unit continues, students will become familiar with the six simple machines: lever, wheel and axle, pulley, screw, wedge, and inclined plane.  As we study the simple machines we will learn that
simple machines make work easier by changing the direction of the input force and/or reducing the amount of force needed to make an object move.
