Trimester 2: Food Chains and Webs
NEW! (January 20th, 2012)
Third graders recently began learning about adaptations. Below is an adaptation video that we watched in science class.
NEW! (January 10th, 2012)
Third grade began their study of food chains with an in-class dissection of an owl pellet(regurgitated fur and bones from an owl's supper)! The kids loved dissecting the owl pellet so much that many of them asked if they could keep the bones of the rodents they found! If you are interested in dissecting an owl pellet with your third grader please explore Delta Education or Kid Wings. Also, be sure to check out the virtual owl pellet dissection at Kid Wings (located on our "Fun Websites" page).
In the coming weeks, third grade will delve deeply into the concept of food chains. We will study components of the food chain (sun, producer, consumers - herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores, and decomposers) as well as how energy is passed along in a food chain. Also during our investigation of food chains we will learn how the predator-prey relationship functions in a specific habitat.
